    Board the train

Follow the lane number shown at check-in to your boarding zone. When called, drive directly into the carriage. Marshalls direct you to your spot. Apply handbrake, switch off engine, leave car in neutral.

Veteran traveller tips

What experienced cross-Channel drivers do differently

  • Fill up at Folkestone services before the terminal, not after; UK petrol is cheaper than the terminal Shell.
  • Use the Coquelles Auchan or Carrefour for cheaper diesel on the way home.
  • Keep passports in the central console, not the boot. You will need them at the gate.
  • Use the loo before boarding. The carriage toilets are functional but cramped.
  • Charge phones before boarding. No mobile signal in the tunnel; no on-train sockets.
  • Apply handbrake AND leave in neutral when parked; cars must roll if shunted.
  • Do not block carriage end-doors with your car if marshalled near them; emergency egress.
  • Set your watch to French time at Coquelles. France is one hour ahead of UK most of the year.
